Course Overview
The Higher Diploma in Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management is designed to equip students with the professional knowledge, practical skills and industry exposure needed for a successful career in one of the world’s most dynamic service sectors. Structured around 10 carefully developed modules and a 6-month internship, the programme provides a balanced blend of theoretical grounding and hands-on experience, preparing students for both immediate employment and further academic progression.
Students will gain a strong understanding of the global tourism landscape through Sustainable Tourism Management, where they explore responsible practices, environmental considerations and long-term industry trends. The module on Human Resource Management in Tourism, Hospitality and Events highlights the importance of people management, talent development and leadership in service-oriented organisations.
A significant component of the programme focuses on operational excellence. Management of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) introduces students to event planning, coordination and execution, while Food and Beverage Management and Practical, together with Accommodation Management and Practical, offer essential skills through real-world applications. Service Quality Management and Intercultural Communication further strengthen students’ ability to deliver exceptional guest experiences in culturally diverse environments.
Students will also develop analytical and technological competencies. Managerial Accounting for Tourism, Hospitality and Events builds financial literacy and decision-making skills, while Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence equips learners with current digital tools and emerging innovations transforming the industry. Research Methods in Tourism, Hospitality and Events trains students to analyse trends, conduct investigations and support evidence-based management. Additionally, Digital Marketing for Tourism, Hospitality and Events prepares students to design effective online strategies, engage consumers and understand evolving digital behaviours.
The programme culminates in a 6-month internship, giving students the opportunity to apply their learning in hotels, travel agencies, event organisations, or tourism-related companies. This valuable industry attachment enhances employability and provides students with practical insights and professional networks.
Upon completion, graduates will have a solid foundation to take on supervisory roles in hospitality, tourism and events, or progress to the BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management degree offered by the University of Sunderland (UK).
